With all of my glowing descriptions of nudity, cleavage, nip slips and down-blouse peeks, and with my appreciation for women who are "just plain sexy," it might be surprising to find a page on modesty. But just because I enjoy the view, especially the view accidentally given, does not mean I do not see the value or attractiveness of modesty, and understand the virtue of not showing too much. In fact, a little bit of mystery goes a long way.
And the Bible has something to say about modesty. Instruction women ignore to their own peril.
Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 1 Timothy 2: 9 – 10
Modesty means not drawing undue attention to oneself, or to one’s sexuality. It does not have to mean dressing frumpily, or dated and out of style. Nor does it have to mean every square inch from head to toe covered in layers of concealing fabric. On the other hand it certainly doesn’t mean playing peek-a-boo with necklines, slits up to the bum, see through or crevice hugging fabrics. The application of a little bit of common sense goes a long way.
There is a time and a place for everything. A beautiful woman modestly dressed is a rare jewel indeed. She need not display her wares for all to see to intrigue a man’s interest and entice his heart. There is greatness concealed in modesty and a body reserved only for the eyes of her husband.
In a post Miley Cyrus VMA Performance world, a bit of modesty would go a long way. Many a woman has regretted showing too much. It is rare for a woman to regret being discrete with the hidden treasure of her beauty.
