• The Insanity of Sexual Sin

Some might think that because I have written about the delights of nudity and even erotica, and because I strongly advocate for the full, free and even frequent enjoyment of masturbation that I have rather liberal views concerning fornication, adultery and homosexual activity. They would be wrong.

    Under no circumstances
    should anyone, EVER,
    have sex outside of the
    Biblical covenant of marriage.

Under no circumstances should anyone, ever, have sex outside of the Biblical covenant of marriage. To do so is one of the most selfish and self destructive acts one can commit. It is selfish because it is always at the expense of the one with whom we have sinned. It is self destructive because we have exchanged a few moments of elicit pleasure for interrupted fellowship with God and a whole lot of unnecessary pain. If you want an orgasm jerk off if you need too, but whatever you do, do not commit fornication or adultery or acts of homosexuality.

    Not All Sin Is Equal

Some see sexual sin as no worse than any other. But according to the Scriptures and simple common sense, not all sin is equal. Some sins have more serious consequences than others. Blood of Jesus. Yes, with repentance every sin can be equally cleansed by the Blood of Jesus Christ but the consequences of sexual sin are serious and have damaging effects and long term consequences for the sinners, the Church, for society, and creation. The effects of sexual sin are catastrophic.

How catastrophic? Since sex is a gift from God reserved for the sanctity of marriage immorality is a serious affront to God. It enters into the sacred mystery of conjugal love illegitimately, dangerously, and with reckless abandon. In doing so it takes what is sacred and makes it sordid. In the Old Testament the penalty was death. In the New Testament it damages our intimacy with God, our place in the church, our reputation, our ministry, and our witness in the world. Sex is designed to bring new life but sexual sin always brings death. Even when repentance brings resurrection that is a lot of damage and healing takes time.

    Serious Consequences for the Individual

Can a man take fire to his bosom,
And his clothes not be burned? Proverbs 6:27 NKJV

    • Break God’s laws and God’s laws break you. A one-time passion filled mistake is tragic; an immoral lifestyle is inexcusable. The more sin the greater the damage and much more healing needed.
    • Loss of Intimacy with God. Yes you can be in sexual sin and continue to minister successfully (until it is discovered) but you cannot be in sexual sin and have an intimate relationship with God. It just won’t work. And eventually a lack of intimacy with God will affect anointing and ability for ministry. And it does not matter how “spiritual” you think you are, it does not mean you are in right relationship with God.
    • Loss of Place in the Kingdom of God. The Word is clear. Choosing sexual sin means losing your place in God’s Kingdom.

For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Ephesians 5:5 NKJV

Hey, don’t blame me. I didn’t write the Book.

You may do all kinds of things while in sexual sin. You may lead worship and people may be blessed. Preach, and prophesy with powerful effect. Read your Bible, pray, give and be faithful to church. But if you are in sexual immorality you still have no part in the Kingdom of God. Worship at the altar of moral compromise carries with it serious consequences.

“Oh preacher, you are being too hard!”

    Am I? Really?

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NKJV

But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. Revelation 21:8 NKJV

    Sounds serious to me!

    Defilement to the Woman

    Run From Sexual Sin.

There is no such thing as “making love” outside of the bonds of holy matrimony. Love does what is best for the other person, and being defiled is not good for anyone. A woman will naturally want to give herself completely to a man she loves. But a true man of God will prove himself worthy of her by rising to the occasion and protecting the woman he loves, even from herself. A man of God will not engage in sexual sin.

“But she wanted it as much as I did.”

    Oh, grow up!

Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18 NKJV

    Damage to the Man

When an immoral man seduces a woman who is not yet his wife he defiles her and damages himself. Fornication stunts emotional growth. It gives a man too much too soon and delays his development into mature manhood. Waiting for the sacred covenant of marriage forces a man to grow up and accept responsibility for his actions. Sex outside of marriage is the pursuit of the immature teenager who wants what he wants when he wants it, not when it is best for him to have it and regardless of the consequences to himself and anyone else. And woman, do you want a reliable and mature man? You destroy the very thing you want when you commit sexual sin with him. Don’t complain that he won’t grow-up when you are catering to and nurturing his adolescent ways.

    Disappointment for Both

    Repentance cleanses you,
    but it will not
    change your history.
    Nor does it
    automatically undo
    all the damage.

It may sound hopelessly old fashioned but there is a pure and holy joy when two virgins come together in conjugal bliss on their wedding night. Fornication robs them both of that sacred experience. And if he does not marry her, it robs her future husband of what should have been his and his alone. How tragic, to have the sublime beauty of your first sexual experience tarnished by the stain of sin. What God made pure and holy is experienced as something sordid and defiled. It is even sadder to not realize the seriousness of the loss.

    Dilutes Your Personhood

Repentance cleanses you, but it will not change your history. Nor does it automatically undo all the damage. With each act of sexual union you become one, giving part of yourself away. In marriage this is wonderful and strengthens unity. Outside of marriage it is disastrous. The immoral lose more and more of themselves until their very personhood is diluted.

You are also defiled by taking on the other person’s moral uncleanness through spiritual transference. That is something from which no condom can protect you.

It takes intensive ministry to reverse the extensive damage caused by the curse of sexual immorality. Sexual sin hurts everyone it touches.

    Serious Effects on the Church

Some are so blind as to think that the church has no right to be concerned about their sexual lives. They fail to understand simple biology. We are all connected and what affects one part affects all. When you climb into a bed of sexual sin you hurt each other, but you also take the rest of us there with you. So what you do with your body very much concerns me.

    Sin in the Camp.

Sexual sin is a violation of community. It puts the church in a serious bind. They are forced to either take action, or disobey God. This is painful. And if you persist your Christian friends are forced to distance themselves from you until you repent.

Sexual sin is very infectious. Left untreated it can spread like wildfire. God convicts and tries to bring the offender to repentance. If the person does not repent the church must confront to save the sinner, and protect itself. If there is still no repentance, the offending member must be surgically removed with the sharp knife of church discipline. If not, the sin will permeate and defile the entire church. Turn a blind eye and soon saints of God who never wrestled with such things will now find themselves struggling and many will fall.

Does this all sound too hard. Does it sound void of the mercy of God? Does it sound like an offense against love? Does it even sound unbiblical? Consider the following.

Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? 9 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person. For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.” 1 Corinthians 5:6 & 9 – 13 NKJV

When sexual sin becomes the new normal people lose their restraint. When Church members continue to fellowship with immoral people professing Christianity, we become tolerant of the intolerable and lose our sense of horror and disgust at the situation. This is one reason why we cannot just ignore it and act as if all is well. Sadly some churches not only continue in fellowship but to even let unrepentant sexual sinners feast at the Table of the Lord. A church infected with sexual sin loses its identity as “a holy nation, His own special people.” 1 Peter 2:9 NKJV Drained of strength and we become a stench in the land. We become like the world and no longer good for anything. When we don’t control our passions we are controlled by all forces base and vile. And when leadership commits sexual sin the effects are even more devastating. The congregation becomes even more vulnerable. It is a massive violation of trust. And it destroys our honor before a world all to ready to make light of our lives and our message.

    Serious Consequences for Society

Immorality among Christians contributes to the destruction of society. We are called to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13) and woe to us and to a sinful defiled world when we fail at this noble task. We lose both our mission and mandate. Nothing disappoints a world full of rampant sexual sin more than Christians joining them in their licentious lifestyles. It destroys their hope for a better life and a better world.

There are few things in life more expensive than sin. Imagine what society would be like if everyone simply obeyed the Ten Commandments. The cost of immorality is exorbitant.

    The Effect on all Creation

For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:2 NKJV

The sexual union between a husband and his wife paints within creation a glorious picture of the mystical union of Christ and His Church. It is a picture of a pure virgin bride on her wedding day. All creation hungers for this and the heavens rejoice when this union is displayed on earth. When this picture is defiled by loss of virginity before marriage the very heavens and earth weep. The heavens shut up their storehouses. The ground becomes barren. "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." Proverbs 14:34 NKJV

Spill your human seed in sin and you cannot expect to sow the seed God gives for seedtime and harvest and reap a rich reward. Your linage is defiled and your harvest will be affected.

    Sexual Sin Must Be Judged

    Stop Sinning.

So yes, because of the disastrous effects on the individual, the church, society, and even creation itself sexual sin cannot be ignored. We must repent. Stop sinning and call out to God for mercy. The moment we do our life is transformed and the healing can begin.

If there is no repentance sexual sin must be judged. The church must adopt a zero tolerance policy toward the sexual sins of fornication, adultery, and active homosexuality among Christians. To do less is to fail to love. And it makes light of what God considers very serious. We must not lose our sense of sadness, horror and heartbreak. Like it or not, the Word of God is very clear on what needs to be done.

For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God. I Peter 4:17 NKJV

“But Adam, how can you be so harsh? Don’t you realize you can be a Christian and still struggle with ongoing sexual sin?”

You think so? I wasn’t the one who said those who choose sexual sin over righteousness have no place in the Kingdom of God! There is no such thing as a Christian-Fornicator or Christian-Adulterer or Christian-Active-Homosexual.

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 NKJV

We are not just animals controlled by our instincts. We are sons and daughters of the Almighty for who grace to abstain is readily available.
